Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Do I need to pay a deposit if I pay on-line by credit card? 

A: No, if paying by credit card on-line no deposit is required and therefore no refund is due

 

Q: If I send a Mail Order or Cheque by mail do I pay a deposit?  

A: Yes, you will need to include an additional $75.00 refundable deposit to the total of your academic dress hire fee.

 

Q; When will I receive my deposit back? 

A: Deposits made by cheque or money order will be refunded by direct deposit into the bank account nominated on the reservation form OR a cheque in Australian Dollars will be posted to the address on the reservation form approx 4 weeks after graduation.

 

Q Do I need to supply information about my size for gown and cap hire when reserving my academic dress? 

A: No, we no longer require information on your sizing for academic dress hire reservation. Your measurements will be taken on the day of collection.

 

Q: Can my academic dress be collected by someone else? 

A: Yes, if your academic dress is going to be collected by someone else please ensure they have your height and head circumference. 

 

Q: How will you know what colour my hood is if I require one?

 A: When you indicate the division on the reservation page, this informs us of your colour

 

Q: I have completed a Graduate Certificate/Graduate Diploma do I hire a hood? 

A:  Only if you have a prior Qualification.

If your prior qualification is from The University of Newcastle please choose to hire a hood and the colour will be organised on the day.

If your prior qualification is from another Institute you have 2 options:

 1.      You may choose to acquire your hood from your previous institute; or

 2.      You may wear the University of Newcastle colour of your prior degree

Q:  Do I have to wear a hood if I have completed a Graduate Certificate/Graduate Diploma and have a prior Qualification?

 A: It is not a requirement that you wear a hood if you have completed a Graduate Certificate/Graduate Diploma.

  

Q:  Can I use my studentmail email address when reserving my academic dress?

 A:  You can only use your studentmail address if you are a current student of The University of Newcastle.

If you are no longer a student of The University of Newcastle, please use another email address.

  

Q:  I've tried several times to reserve my academic dress with two different credit cards over the past couple of days and it keeps saying 'invalid card'. Am I doing something wrong? 

A:  After the second attempt please e-mail for further assistance.

 

 Q:  I just reserved my academic dress but made a mistake in it, how can I fix this?

 A:  If a mistake is made please e-mail your correction and we will adjust accordingly
