Move-In

Living on-campus is a life changing experience and we are excited that you will be joining our unique community and we're looking forward to your arrival to campus! Move-in day marks the beginning of college life and there is usually a lot to do. Our goal is to make this day as easy as possible so here is some useful information and tips.

    MOVE-IN CALLAGHAN CAMPUS

     

    Official Move-In Date - Semester 1, 2014

    The official move-in day for new residents for Semester 1, 2014 is Saturday, 1 February 2014 between 9:00am to 3:00pm, regardless of which College you're moving into. We strongly encourage that you move in on the designated date to ensure that accommodation staff are available to guide you through the move-in process.

    If you arrive earlier or later than this date, please arrive between 8:00am and 4:30pm, Monday to Friday.  We can not guarantee check-in after hours, however if you cannot arrive during office hours please contact Accommodation Services.

    Check-in

    Once you have arrived at Callaghan, you need to go to the check-in station at the Accommodation Services office (Edwards Hall) to pick up your room key and welcome pack. Staff and Residential Assistants will greet you and provide directions and assistance for moving in.

    To make your check-in as easy as possible, please do the following before you arrive:

    1. Pay all initial upfront fees as outlined in your offer by the due date.
    2. Register for a Direct Debit Authority via the Accommodation Portal. Automatic payments to pay your Licence Fees will be deducted from your nominated account fortnightly as per the Direct Debit Schedule.

     

    What To Bring

    All rooms are fully furnished so when you move in to College you only need to bring your personal items. To help you pack, the following items are recommended:

    • Licence/photo ID
    • Bed Linen, including sheets, pillows, blanket. Or you may wish to order a bed linen package for your room through the Accommodation Portal.
    • Bath towels
    • Dining utensils. Or you may wish to order a dining utensil package through the Accommodation Portal.
    • Toiletries
    • Computer/laptop
    • Alarm clock
    • Clothes hangers
    • Laundry basket/bag
    • Headphones
    • Mosquito repellent
    • Study stationery
    • Sunscreen

     

    Directions and Parking

    If you don't know how to get to the University of Newcastle, Callaghan campus check out our campus maps for directions before your arrive.

    Parking on campus is limited, especially on move-in day.  When your arrive we recommend that you park in the first available car park.  Once you have checked-in, our Residential Assistants will direct you to your College.

    Leave your luggage in your vehicle until you've checked-in.

    Rules and Regulations

    Before arriving you must familiarise yourself with the following documents. These documents contain the rules and regulations that govern residential living.

     

    Dining Information (Catered Residents Only)

    If you have a dietary requirement you must advise us in writing prior to your arrival, with a clear explanation of your requirement. This will help our kitchen staff provide suitable meals on your first day onwards.

    On check-in you will be given an electronic meal tag with instructions on how to activate it. The tag must be activated so that you can collect your meals.

    If you need to send any items to College or if you are lucky enough to have someone sending you mail, have it addressed to:

    Residential Parking Permit

    If you have a vehicle and wish to park at the residences for the duration of your time living at College, will need a Residential Parking Permit.  You can pre-pay for a parking permit on the Accommodation Portal and pick it up when you check-in.

    A Residential Parking Permit is different to a Student Parking Permit. A separate Student Parking Permit is required if you wish to park in any car park outside the residential precinct.  Learn more about how to obtain a Student Parking Permit here.


    Top 10 Things To Do Once You Move-in

    1. Complete your Room Condition Report  within 7 days of moving into your room to avoid being held accountable for existing damage.  Your room condition report will be given to you when you check in.
    2. Join our private Facebook group 'University of Newcastle Colleges' - stay updated on the latest information around College and keep an eye out for upcoming College events.
    3. Connect to IPTV (if you do not have a TV). IPTV allows you to watch free-to-air television directly from your computer. To access, download a VLC Player here.
    4. Connect to the Internet. All residents have access to free internet connections. To activate your connection follow the steps here.
    5. Register to attend O Month events. To kick off each semester a variety of O Month events are coordinated to welcome new residents to College. Keep an eye out for updates on this site for O Month.
    6. Familiarise yourself with the Residential Life Program.  All residents are supported by a Residential Life Program which is designed to help you with living away from home.  Through the program you have access to a range of services to enhance you College experience.     7. Activate your electronic meal tag (catered residents only).
    8. Bookmark 'Resident Link' the Current Resident webpage as a favourite. Here you will be able to find important dates, contact details, resources and important information.
    9. Download the SafeAone App for 24/7 access to on-campus security. Learn more about SafeZone here.
    10. Ring home to say you are okay.

     

    MOVE-IN OURIMBAH CAMPUS

     

    Official Move-In Date - Semester 1, 2014

    The official move-in day for residents for Semester 1, 2014 is Saturday, 1 February 2014.

    On this day there will be a free afternoon BBQ for the residents and any parents/family/friends helping you move in. The Residential Assistants will run through some important information and help you settle into life on campus.

    Check-in

    Troy Martin, Regional Campus Accommodation Coordinator, will be at Blue Gum House from 8am on this day.

    Your room keys, room condition report and welcome pack will be made available inside your room.
